Faith in the City of Lights
What better place to talk about the temptations of this world than Las Vegas, Nevada. Being born and raised in Sin City, the allurement of sin is strong. Lets be real, this is usually the spot to blame for breakups, gambling, alcohol/drug addiction and abuse. Though, this city offers more than just the sinful acts that take place, the acts often overlook the beauty of this land. Las Vegas also has a very strong christian-community and stronghold of people who love God and what HE has to offer us instead.
Whether you are simply visiting or reside in the Las Vegas or Henderson area, there are several churches, activities and foundations that can draw you closer to God and all of his goodness. The difference between temptations and what God has to offer is simple. Earthly temptations often lead to sin and these are temporary fixes. God’s love for you is permanent and when you are introduced to his love, your eyes truly open. You can then start to find desires in the words and actions of God.
A single flower blooms amidst a dry and empty desert, yet God’s love provides sustenance and nourishment. This can be seen in the midst of our life trials and desolation as well. Despite it’s surroundings, the flower represents hope and potential life. In the Las Vegas desert, this image represents how God’s love for us is resilient and unwavering just as we can be when we let the light in.
As I can already sense the Karens reading this article, not all drinking and partying activities are bad, thats not the point of this article. Trust me, a mimosa ain’t never hurt nobody! Engaging in social events and celebrating special occasions can be perfectly acceptable, as long as you have the right mindset and intentions. Encouraging mindfulness of individual limits, and prioritizing the safety of yourself as well as others while you are living your best life can potentially save a life.
The partying, the drinking and all of these exciting temptations are enjoyable in the moment, but finding a balance with faith included can only strengthen the good in your heart and the closer you are to God. Then, you and your heart will be safe forever. Then, you wont be as tempted by sinful activity, as you’ll be preoccupied living your life through Jesus Christ.
